Question: What’s the best time to collect seeds? Answer: Any time they are ripe!

Fall is an ideal time collect seeds for a variety of uses:

  1. Share them by posting them on the Seed Share section of the GCA web site: https://www.gcamerica.org/index.cfm/members:seeds/list

  2. Use them for winter sow, that wonderfully easy way to grow seeds without having to deal with the pesky issues of cold, moist stratification and hardening off: https://www.gcamerica.org/members:showcases/details/id/1026

  3. Grow them for harvesting in fall 2022 for the (fingers crossed hybrid) Shirley Meneice Seed Share at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston or for growing plants for the Plant Exchange there. https://www.gcamerica.org/members:news/get/id/3325

  4. Share them in your own communities for projects such as public plantings pollinator gardens and school projects.

  5. Plant them in your garden for your own enjoyment.

Happy Growing!
